European Dams and Reservoirs Day is 24 May. This is the third time this event is arranged and FINCOLD is happy to participate. In Finland we are celebrating the event from 13 May all the way to early June.
The first webinar by FINCOLD toger with Economic Developlent Centre of Lapland was arranged 13 May 2026. The topic was Dams and Climate change. 73 participants attended the webinar!

At the same time with the Dam Day celebration, winner of the first FINCOLD master thesis competition is enjoying his prise: participating ICOLD 2026 in Mexico. And now it is time to publish the second thesis competition in Finland. The winner of this competition will be able to join the ICOLD 2028 in Spain.
There was nine participants form Finland joining the ICOLD 2026 event. Five of them were participating the very first time! Two participants were young professionals! Also four presentations by FINCOLD members!
Kemijoki Oy arraged for Kemijärvi secondary school students a possibility to visit Pirttikoski hydropower station on 26 May. Around 50 students were discovering facts about hydropower.
New comic strip on dam safety theme was designed again by Kamala luonto (Ugly Nature www.kamalaluontol.fi)
There was a blog published on dam incidents (only in Finnish) Patojen häiriötilanteet | Vesi.fi.
FINCOLD also published a newsletter, which was sent to all its member organizations in printed form. The PDF file can be found at fincold.org .
Part of Oulu2026-progran, experimental opera series "Hydropower Plants" starts on 28.5. The first event was held in Seitenoikea-hydropower station owned by Fortum in river Oulunjoki. You can read more about the event from nocpok.fi/en/productions/vesivoimalaitokset-hydropower-plants/
